Kissimmee man charged in shooting

Police have arrested a 20-year-old Kissimmee man for manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence after responding to Osceola Regional Hospital yesterday afternoon in reference to a shooting victim.

Police say the victim, 25-year-old Henry Antonio Ortiz-Reyes of Kissimmee, was brought to the hospital by his girlfriend, Maria Gonzalez and her 20-year-old brother Henry Gonzalez-Galay. Henry Ortiz-Reyes died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives interviewed Maria Gonzalez and Henry Gonzalez-Galay at the Kissimmee Police Department. Maria told detectives that she, Henry Ortiz-Reyes and her brother were in her vehicle and that Ortiz-Reyes was driving. They stopped for gas at the Shell Gas Station located at 2201 West Columbia Avenue and she went inside to pay. When she came outside she saw Ortiz-Reyes lying on the ground by the passenger side of the vehicle. Maria and her brother put Ortiz-Reyes in the car and she drove him to the hospital. She was not sure how he sustained the gunshot wound.

Investigators say Henry Gonzalez-Galay cooperated with detectives and provided them with information on how Ortiz-Reyes was shot. When Maria went into the gas station, Ortiz-Reyes removed a revolver from a book bag in the front seat and showed it to Henry. As Henry took the gun from Ortiz-Reyes he put his finger within the gun’s trigger guard and accidentally fired it, striking Ortiz-Reyes. Henry emptied the ammunition from the gun and discarded the gun in a dumpster at the hospital and disposed of the ammunition in some bushes.

Henry Gonzalez-Galay was charged with Manslaughter and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He was taken to the Osceola County Jail and held on no bond. The gun and ammunition were recovered by detectives.
