FHP troopers help deliver baby at 2 a.m. on side of the road in Seminole County

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol helped deliver a baby on the side of State Road 414 in Altamonte Springs early Tuesday morning.

FHP said Trooper Michael Allen and Auxiliary Trooper Pete Christie were patrolling the road when they saw an SUV traveling eastbound at 83 mph. The posted speed limit was 50 mph.

Trooper Allen immediately pulled over the SUV and noticed the man in the driver’s seat “frantically waving his arms outside of the window,” according to a news release.

“Trooper Allen and Trooper Christie approached the vehicle and were informed that the woman in the front right seat was in active labor,” the release said.

The troopers called for an EMS and eventually decided to have the woman get out of the SUV and lie on a blanket in the grass on the side of State Road 414. Within minutes, they were able to help her deliver a “healthy baby girl.”

Trooper Allen cleared the baby’s airway and she began to cry. EMS later arrived and took the mother and the baby to the hospital with the rest of the family.

“FHP extends its best wishes and congratulations to the family on their new addition.”
