Central Florida road improvements being delayed due to inflation

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Rising costs of materials is forcing transportation planners to push back road projects on busy roads in Central Florida that were slotted over the next couple of years.

Two of the projects are on State Road 50 in East Orange County that would widen it from near Avalon Park to State Road 520.

The other project is on State Road 434 from Edgewater Drive to the Seminole County Line. It’s been pushed back four years.

Metroplan Orland Board Chairman Mayra Uribe said they’ve had to reprioritize projects.

The board could even take a look at pushing back the plan for express lanes for I-4 west of Walt Disney World.

“It looks like it may be altered somewhat,” Uribe said. “We don’t know all the details, but it will be coming up.”

Uribe said the board is looking at other funding sources, such as federal grants, at will also at some point have to figure out how increasing numbers of electric vehicles will play into covering costs of road projects.
