A Fort Meyers woman might listen to her husband next time he says there’s a gator in the garage!
Torrie Heathcoat told WPTV news she thought her husband was playing a practical joke on her before she opened her garage door and saw the 7-foot alligator for herself.
The reptile greeted her with a hiss.
Heathcoat said her family had just returned home from a trip to Maine when her husband made a quick run to the gas station leaving the garage door open.
He returned with the news about their visitor.
“When my husband said there was a gator in the garage I thought he was kidding. When I open the door it was literally on the other side of the door,” Heathcoat told WPTV. “Now I’m terrified that there will be one under my car. I don’t know if it came from the lake, I don’t know if it came from the reserve.”
A welcome back to Florida! We currently have a 7 foot gator in our garage on the other side of the door into the house!...

Not skipping a beat, Heathcoat quickly shut the door and called 911.
She posted a photo of the scene on her Facebook page while waiting for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to respond with the caption, “I may have just had a mild heart attack! The poor 911 operator - she doesn’t get paid enough for dealing with my call! I can hear him through the door.... I’m seriously having a panic attack!”
Wildlife officers say the gator was safely relocated to a more suitable habitat in North Fort Myers.
