The FBI issued a warning that they have received threats of violence at Capitols across the nation, including Florida.
Now state Senate President Wilton Simpson has issued a statement warning staff to stay home this Sunday, January 17 “Out of an abundance of caution.”
In the memo, Simpson referred to the threat received by the FBI and noted that “it is our understanding that our Capitol remains secure and there have been no threats to our safety.”
However, he did request that rather than traveling to the Capitol Complex that all staff should work remotely.
E.W. Scripps reporter Forrest Saunders shared a copy of the statement on Twitter.

The threats continue through inauguration day and Florida Division of Emergency Management Deputy Director Kevin Guthrie said via social media Tuesday, “I can assure you that Tallahassee is prepared.”
