Doctors report that the pandemic has led to an increase in toe and foot injuries

The pandemic is a big health crisis, and it’s also spawning other health issues—including more broken toes.

Multiple podiatrists told the Washington Post they’ve seen a considerable uptick in toe breaks since the pandemic began.

Podiatrist Ben Pearl tells the paper, “The short reason is that with the pandemic, people are spending more time at home.”

It makes sense as most people don’t wear shoes around their own home—making them more prone to injury.

Upping the risk of broken toes is the fact that many of us re-arranged our living spaces to accommodate working from home, or schooling kids at home, and people are drinking more too.

Orthopedic surgeon John Keeling adds, “People are dropping bottles of wine on the big toe.”

Foot injuries related to covid should not be confused with what’s known as ‘covid toes.’
