AAA forecasts record July 4th weekend travel despite high gas prices

AAA is forecasting record travel for the July 4th weekend, with Americans hitting the road for the holiday despite the pain at the pump from high gas prices that are hovering around $5.00 a gallon, on average.

The automotive and trip-planning group is saying in its annual forecast that a record 42 million Americans will take a road trip of 50 miles or more for the July 4th weekend.

CNN offered some tips to save on gas if you do plan to travel by car for the holiday weekend.

They include: don’t go to gas stations just off major highways, but drive a few miles down the road, and look if possible for residential or remote rural areas; if you’re low on gas and need to stop in an area with higher gas prices, don’t fill up, but just get enough gas to safely get someplace where prices are lower; and consider going on a “nearcation,” which is a road trip, but to places that are closer to home, but far enough away that they aren’t more like a staycation.
