A money saving challenge 

Last week on Saving Thousands! with Robert Palmer I challenged everyone to shop around to find the best possible deal on everything from insurance to cable.

This week I’m challenging myself. I’m going to buy rabbit ears for my TV and see how many FREE channels I can get here in Orlando. I guarantee it’s a lot more than people realize.

Rob in Kissimmee called into the show, and he did just that. Currently, with just rabbit ears, he can get 45 crystal-clear stations. He said it was all about the money they were just throwing away. His family is busy and didn’t spend that much time at home. They found that out that a majority of the channels they do watch are free channels. For ten years now he’s lived with just this antenna and saved about $1,000 a year!

If you’re thinking of trying this, look into an iTunes or Hulu account. You can buy most of the shows you watch or movies for as little as 99 cents. 

So now you’ve saved all this money by cancelling your cable or dish provider, you can turn that money saved around to get you out of debt. If your cable bill was $100 a month, set up an auto pay to put that $100 on your credit card each month. See how quickly that extra money will help you pay off your card. Once that’s paid off put it toward your car payment or mortgage. Do this until you’re debt free!

Again I just want all my listeners to be educated consumers. It’s important to know exactly where your money is going. Apply these tips to anything in your life to save thousands. It’s not about depriving yourself; it’s about what’s necessary.  Take the time add up all the little things you’re paying for and figure out what’s most important to you.
