ORLANDO, Fla. —
New information has been released surrounding the death of UCF freshman Ann Hefferin and the sanctions her sorority and another on-campus greek organization will face.
Hefferin was found dead the morning of August 25 after attending a party at the Sigma Chi Fraternity house.
The sanctions include a temporary ban from social events and disciplinary probation until late 2012.
A young woman came forward and told authorities that she spoke with Hefferin the same day she went out to party with her sorority members.
"She was complaining how often they took the girls out to party every night, and how late they had them out. She was considering to drop the sorority, however she said that she didnt want to drop them too early. Ann also mentioned to me that she didnt plan on going out for the rest of the week, because she was exhausted of all the girls drinking and partying."
Reports show that an estimated 60 to 200 people participated in a "pre-game" with hard liquor shots and drinking the games the night before Hefferin became unresponsive in her on-campus dorm. An incident report sent to Sigma Chi, described the scene when Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Belinda Boston arrived at the house the following morning.
Boston noticed beer cans and cups in the parking lot and the strong odor of alcohol inside the house. Bottles of Vodka and empty cups were also found in the kitchen.
Both Sigma Chi and Tri-Delta acknowledged that the "pre-game" was an unregistered event with the university, alcohol was present and underage drinking occurred.
Delta Delta Delta is on disciplinary probation through the end of 2012.
Sigma Chi will be on disciplinary probation until the end of the summer 2012 term. The fraternity cannot have alcohol at any functions this spring or summer.
UCF spokesman Grant Heston says a further review will occur when the Medical Examiner's Office issues it's report.
