Orlando, FL —

Volusia County's fire chief is worried about flames that have gobbled up to 1200 acres and forced an evacuation near Maytown Road.

Up to 45 buildings have been destroyed, including five homes.

Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency.

"Through the executive order we are able to use more resources to fight the fires, National Guard helicopters and things like that," he explained.

He is being briefed Tuesday afternoon about conditions in neighboring Flagler County.

Scott told WDBO the drought's pretty bad all over Florida. "Our projection right now is, we're going to be short of rainfall for another two weeks."

"We've got to be careful about any open burning, any matches, anything that could start a fire," he said, noting that Florida's in a dry period not seen in ten years.

There are more than 300 fires in Florida right now.

In Volusia County, 38 hunting camps have been consumed by the flames, according to Volusia County Fire Services.

The governor's advice: "The best thing, do a rain dance."
